There’s nothing exceptional, though the dining room at Hostería de la Patagonia is pretty good. On the east side of the plaza, Café Loly y Elizabeth (González 25, tel. 067/411288) serves reliable breakfasts, sandwiches, and onces.
Café Refer (O’Higgins 416, tel. 067/411225) is a pub/restaurant that serves sandwiches and also specializes in salmon (US$6–7), embellished with a variety of sauces. Monchito (O’Higgins 250) has a limited menu and absent-minded service, but the kitchen makes an honest effort to prepare beef, chicken, or salmon dishes to order.
