Like the accommodations, the food is a better than in most other towns of Futaleufú’s size, though Chilean standards like beef, chicken, and sandwiches are the rule. In addition to Hostería Río Grande’s dining room, choices include El Encuentro (O’Higgins 633, tel. 065/721247), Escorpio (Gabriela Mistral 255, tel. 065/721228), and the rather bland Futaleufú (Pedro Aguirre Cerda 407, tel. 065/721295).
Sur Andes (Aguirre Cerda 308, tel. 065/721405) has varied espresso drinks, rich desserts, and homemade chocolates. Though possibly overbuilt for a burg of Futa’s size, the ambitious Martín Pescador (Balmaceda 603, tel. 065/721279) offers cozy living-room style for an aperitif, good salmon (around US$9), and a small English-language library (not a book exchange).
