Best for breakfasts and sandwiches, Bavaria (Av. San Martín 255, tel. 072/241241) is the local representative of the reliable nationwide chain. Reina Victoria (Independencia 667, tel. 072/239867) has moderately priced lunches and fine ice cream.
Carnivores can try Torito Parrilla (Zañartu 323, tel. 072/222704), which has an attractive dining room. The sophisticated downtown favorite Guy has closed, but its chef has moved to Doña Emilia (Diego de Almagro 440, tel. 072/239483).
Rancagua’s new Casa de Vinos (Germán Riesco 283, tel. 072/643205) has transformed an old downtown house into a hybrid information center, restaurant and wine bar, wine shop, wine museum, and events center. While its focus is the Cachapoal valley and its wines, it carries some of the best from around the country.
Though not so good as the Santiago ice creamery it displaced, Fiorella (Astorga 307, tel. 072/230596) is the best in town.
