Chile’s national dance is the cueca, an innocently suggestive cock-and-hen courtship ritual that’s a staple of mid-September’s patriotic holidays and many rural festivals. While tango is an Argentine import, it has devoted adherents in Santiago, Valparaíso, and some other cities.
Performances of classical and modern dance, such as ballet, take place at formal venues such as Santiago’s Teatro Municipal or Providencia’s Teatro de la Universidad de Chile.
