A visit to the historic Cabarrus Creamery, which dates back to 1923, is like stepping back in time. The 1950s-era soda-shop decor is enough to make you want to linger, but the popularity of the ice cream shop has nothing to do with the red, white, and blue interior. Here, it’s all about the ice cream.
There are 25 different flavors in the ice cream case and they’re all handmade ($1.75–4.50). The hands-down favorites are sliced lemon and moon pie (a revered Southern treat made with graham cracker cookies, marshmallow filling, and chocolate).
