Liberty County is also home to part of the sprawling Fort Stewart army installation, home of the U.S. Army “Rock of the Marne” 3rd Infantry Division. The only thing open to the public is the Fort Stewart Museum (Bldg. T904, 2022 Frank Cochran Dr., 912/767-7885, Tues.–Sat. 10 a.m.–4 p.m., free), which chronicles the division’s activity in World War II, Vietnam, Korea, Desert Storm, and Iraq.

All visitors must stop at the main gate and provide proof of registration, insurance, and drivers license to receive a visitor’s pass.

Getting to the Fort Stewart Museum

To get to the Fort Stewart Museum, take Exit 87 off I-95 south. Take a left on Hwy. 17, then veer right onto GA 196 west. Turn right at U.S. 84. Turn right onto General Stewart Way and follow directions to the main gate.
