This traditional form of Canadian transportation is a great way to explore the waterways of the mountains that are otherwise inaccessible—places such as Vermilion Lakes in Banff National Park, where beavers, elk, and a great variety of birds can be appreciated from water level. Canoes can be rented on the Bow River in the town of Banff, Lake Louise, and Moraine Lake in Banff National Park; Pyramid and Maligne Lakes in Jasper National Park; Cameron Lake in Waterton Lakes National Park; and Emerald Lake in Yoho National Park. Expect to pay around $20–50 per hour. The more adventurous visitor can rent a canoe and paddle down the Bow River from Lake Louise to downtown Banff.
