Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias
Trip Ideas
Explore Further
One of three groves of rare giant sequoia trees in Yosemite National Park, the Mariposa Grove (Wawona Rd./Hwy. 41) offers a view of these majestic trees even to visitors who aren’t up for long walks or strenuous hikes.
During high season, a one-hour tram ride meanders through the grove, complete with an audio tour describing the botany of the trees, their history, and more. Or if you prefer, you can walk throughout the grove, taking your time admiring the ecology of the giant sequoia forest.
The Mariposa Grove Museum (Upper Mariposa Grove, May–Sept. daily 10 a.m.–4 p.m.) brings still more information to grove visitors.
It’s best to take the free shuttle to the grove from Wawona or Yosemite Valley in high season, to cut down on auto traffic and minimize use of limited grove parking areas.
