At White Oak (7505 Hwy. 128, Healdsburg, 707/433-8429, www.whiteoakwinery.com, daily 10 a.m.–5 p.m.), you’ll find a wonderful combination of whimsy and wine. This Spanish mission–inspired winery complex is surrounded by green gardens dotted with fun sculptures. Beyond the gardens, estate vineyards grow grapes for Old Vine Zinfandels and other fine wines.
Go inside to taste some of those wines—the tasting list is small but prestigious. While white wine drinkers enjoy the Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, big reds are the specialty of the house. Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel lovers flock to White Oak for the fabulous regular releases and occasional special library selections.
Tours at White Oak give participants a special look at wine tasting, describing and illustrating the various components that make up a wine’s fragrance.
