Get yourself a new tattoo, a split tongue, or a Prince Albert down at Mom’s Body Shop (1408 Haight St., 415/864-6667, www.momsbodyshop.com, opens daily at noon).
One relic of the 1960s counterculture still thrives on the Haight: smoke shops. All pipes, water pipes, and other paraphernalia are strictly for use in smoking legal tobacco, you understand. Be sure not to mention anything else inside these shops, for legal reasons.
Shops like Ashbury Tobacco Center (1524 Haight St., 415/552-5556) also sell clothing and accessories made from the much-maligned hemp plant, stickers and T-shirts bearing pretty green leafy designs, cigarette lighters, and other such trinkets. You know why you’re in the Haight, so go on in and look at all the pretty swirling colors!
