Gay Pride

Pride parades and events celebrating queer life have sprung up all over the country, spreading joy and love across the land. But the granddaddy of all Pride events still reigns in San Francisco.

San Francisco Lesbian Gay Bisexual Pride (Market St., 415/864-3733, www.sfpride.org) officially lasts for a weekend — the last weekend of June of each year. But in truth, the fun and festivities surrounding Pride go on for weeks.

The rainbow flags go up all over the City at the beginning of June, and the excitement slowly builds, culminating in the fabulous parade and festival. Everyone is welcome to join the wall-to-wall crowds out in the streets to stroll the vendor booths and pack in to see the Dykes on Bikes and cadres of magnificent drag queens.
