The Stanyan Park Hotel (750 Stanyan St., 415/751-1000, www.stanyanpark.com, $170–400) graces the Upper Haight area across the street from Golden Gate Park. This renovated 1904–1905 building, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, shows off its Victorian heritage both inside and out. Rooms can be small, but are elegantly decorated, and a number of multi-room suites are available. For a special treat, ask for a room overlooking the park.
