The San Diego Museum of Art (1450 El Prado, www.sdmart.org, Tues.–Sat. 10 a.m.–5 p.m., Sun. noon–5 p.m., adults $12, military $10, seniors $9, students $8, children 7–17 $4.50, children 6 and under free) is a highlight, even among the 15 incredible museums of Balboa Park. The collections and exhibitions at the Museum of Art range from Old Masters to Asian art to modern American painting and sculpture.
From photography to painting in unusual media to modern sculpture, you’ll see many media as you stroll through the galleries admiring the art of centuries.
For a deeper experience, take one of docent tours that run a few times each day. Check the website for the latest special exhibitions and upcoming fun museum events.
During summer months (May 27–Sept. 2), the San Diego Museum of Art stays open for extended hours (10 a.m.–9 p.m.) on Thursdays.
