With a young, hip scene and a significant gay presence, nightlife in Hillcrest is happening most every night of the week.
The Brass Rail (3796 Fifth Ave., 619/298-2233, www.thebrassrailsd.com, Mon., Thurs.–Sat. hours vary) is one of San Diego’s oldest gay venues. The lounge features theme nights, DJs, and live music in a historic Hillcrest location.
Ladies should head to The Flame (3780 Park Blvd., 619/295-4163, www.theflamesd.com, daily 1 p.m.–1 a.m.) on Saturdays for dancing, drinks, or just people-watching from the raised, circular couches.
