The L.A. and O.C. Coasts
If you’re looking for the famed surf beaches of SoCal, look no further than the coast of Orange County. Sadly, when you look out over the pretty white sands of Huntington and Laguna, you’re likely to see the lighted towers of the local oil rigs.
Echoing rigs dot the shoreline of Newport and Huntington as well, and as you drive up the legendary Pacific Coast Highway you’ll see honest-to-goodness oil fields that will make you wonder if you took a wrong turn into Texas somehow. In truth, the Southern California oil industry has been thriving for many a decade now.
And so you’ll surf, sun yourself, bike, inline skate, eat, drink, and be merry in the sight of the rigs. Despite their unsightliness, the beaches of the O.C. and their surrounding resort-oriented towns offer great vacationing potential to all comers.
