You won’t miss the sign for the Metro Plaza Hotel (711 N. Main St., 213/680-0200, $88). The low-rise hotel with its white facade and big oddly constructed front marquee sits near Union Station, convenient for train travelers and public transit riders. You can also get transport to and from LAX for about $5, a genuine bargain.
Inside, you’ll find your room to look like any average, reasonably clean motel room. The bedspreads are floral, the carpets light blue, and the space ample. A complimentary continental breakfast comes with your room, and the Metro Plaza has an on-site fitness center.
But the true gems here are the location, central to transportation to all the major L.A. attractions, and the lower-than-average price point for the region.
