For a casual sandwich or pastry in Santa Cruz, head for Kelly’s French Bakery (402 Ingalls St., 831/423-9059, www.kellysfrenchbakery.com, Mon.–Thurs. 7–11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.–7 p.m., Fri. 7–11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.–8 p.m., Sat.–Sun. 7 a.m.–11:30 a.m. and noon–7 p.m., $10). This popular bakery makes its home in an old industrial warehouse-style space, and its domed shape constructed out of corrugated metal looks like anything but a restaurant.
It’s got both indoor and outdoor seating, and serves full breakfasts and luncheon sandwiches. You can order to stay in or to go, and pick up a breakfast or sweet pastry, some bread, or a cake while you’re there.
