Another 6 kilometers (4 miles) down the road from Parque Estadual do Caracol brings you to the Parque da Ferradura (Estrada do Caracol Km 15, tel. 54/9972-8666, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. daily, R$7), a natural park that offers incredible views into the immense ferradura-shaped (horseshoe-shaped) canyon formed by the Rio Caí. A challenging 2-kilometer (1-mile) trail leads down to the river.
Closer to town, the small Parque do Pinheiro Grosso (Estrada do Caracol Km 5, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. daily, free) shelters an immense araucária, believed to be at least 700 years old.
