Radiating an all-natural vibe, Pousada Alto da Pipa (Rua da Gameleira 555, tel. 84/3246-2281, www.pousadaaltodapipa.com.br, R$90–130 d) is a tranquil and charmingly hippie trippie place awash in bright colors and natural fibers. Rooms are simple yet pretty. A ramshackle tropical garden, decked out with fish ponds and a small pool, is inhabited by tortoises, tiny mico monkeys, and hummingbirds.

The Pousada Lounge (Rua Beijupirá 230, tel. 84/3246-2718, www.pousadalounge.com.br, R$120–160 d) is a lounge in the purest sense of the word in that the interiors and exteriors alike are utterly conducive to sprawling around and mellowing out. The soothing whitewashed rooms are creatively furnished with patchwork quilts, throw pillows, local pottery, and dried starfish. Simple but full of character, they lead onto gardens where cool music will lull you to sleep as you relax in a hammock or lounge chairs shaded by a cluster of passion fruit vines.

Perched upon a hill with sweeping views of Praia da Pipa, the Pousada Mirante de Pipa (Rua do Mirante 1, tel. 84/3246-2251, www.mirantedepipa.com.br, R$160–200 d) is the eco-dream of a couple of Carioca fugitives who replanted the property with native woods and fruit trees, and then built 10 distinctive “eco-chalets” using only natural wood and stone. Completely integrated into the surroundings, each bungalow is rustic, spacious and extremely restful. The owners can organize buggy and boating tours of the region.

Although Pipa has no shortage of charming hotels, the most tropically luxe is Toca da Coruja Pousada (Av. Baía dos Golfinhos 464, tel. 84/3246-2226, www.tocadacoruja.com.br, R$406–890 d), an eco-chic oasis nestled amidst a jungly estate. In keeping with Pipa’s green vibe, organic forms and materials reign, but in harmony with creature comforts such as swimming pools, an outdoor fitness room, and a romantic restaurant that serves fusion cuisine. All rooms are beautifully appointed with fine linens and gorgeous bathrooms. The recently constructed deluxe luxury bungalows with four-poster king-sized beds, CD and DVD players, and a private solarium containing a Jacuzzi are definitely worth splurging for.
