Hotel prices are not that cheap in Campos, and during the winter months of June and July they really skyrocket. Advance reservations are essential. In general, the more nights you stay, the cheaper the rate, but during July there is often a minimum stay of three days required.

Inaugurated in 2007, Pousada Santha Serra (Rua Escolástica M. Da Fonseca 358, Vila Capivari, tel. 12/3663-1633, www.pousadasanthaserra.com.br, R$128–160 d) is a clean, modern, and attractive hotel that is a 10-minute walk from Praça Capivari. Rooms are simply furnished, but comfortable (and equipped with heaters), and possess panoramic mountain views.

You’ll need to take a taxi to get to the Pousada Alto da Boa Vista (Rua da Hortências 605, tel. 12/3262-4900, R$160–180 d). Located in the posh neighborhood of Alto da Boa Vista, the pousada is set in a picturesque wooded area with walking paths. Accommodations for groups and families as well as couples are in cozy chalets with warm wood accents, roaring fireplaces, and in some cases, Jacuzzis. A playground, pool, game room, home movie theater and barbecue area make this an ideal choice for those with kids.

Nestled in rolling hills 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) south of Abernéssia, Hotel Toriba (Av. Ernesto Diedricksen 2962, tel. 12/3262-1566, www.toriba.com.br, R$294–470 d) is one of Campos’s most traditional hotels. Inaugurated in 1943, the stylish guest rooms in this Alpine-style villa are suffused with a rustic elegance. Amenities range from a fitness spa, a golf course, and even ice skating to a small farm for children. Three on-site gourmet restaurants—including one that serves the best fondue in town—mean you never have to leave the premises (in fact, full board is available).

Campos’s first boutique hotel, the Hotel Frontenac (Av. Dr. Paulo Ribas 295, Capivari, tel. 12/3669-1000, www.frontenac.com.br, R$372–620 d) is a refined and utterly charming European-style lodge. Multiple creature comforts, a highly reputed international restaurant, a relaxing piano bar, and outstanding service make it a favorite for those in search of an idyllic getaway.
