After close to half a century of existence, Sujinho (Rua da Consolação 2078, Consolação, tel. 11/3231-5207, www.sujinho.com.br, 11:30 a.m.–5 a.m. daily, R$10–20) is still a notorious all-day and after-hours hangout where Paulistanos meet, mingle, and dig in to reasonably priced and deliciously tender barbecued meat. A wide array of side dishes allows you to assemble a meal according to your appetite. Try to nab one of the sidewalk tables so you can observe the people passing by.
A discerning carnivore’s paradise, Baby Beef Rubaiyat (Alameda Santos 86, Paraíso, tel. 11/3141-1188, www.rubaiyat.com.br) is a family-owned chain famed for its sublimely tender cuts of meat. Quality is ensured because the Iglesias family raises all its own cattle on a ranch in Mato Grosso do Sul, as well as chickens, wild boar, Dorper lambs, and a special breed of pig. An impressive wine list complements the food, and the service is excellent.
