Somerset Long Bay Park

Lovely Somerset Long Bay Park and Nature Reserve (Daniel’s Head Rd., off Cambridge Rd., open sunrise to sunset daily, admission free) is co-owned by the Bermuda National Trust and the Bermuda Audubon Society, a coastal mangrove area that is a sanctuary for resident and migratory birds. A plot of adjoining private land was purchased to expand the protected zone, which now includes a stretch of pristine coastline.

Restoration of the reserve has included culling invasive species and replanting endemics, as well as clearing garbage and debris. Located on a quiet stretch far from the noise of road traffic, the grassy park is a shady place to relax, and the shallow beach, with turtle grass and reefs just a few yards out, is a good spot for snorkeling. It’s a popular local beach, too; Bermudian families congregate here for picnics, swimming, and games throughout the summer.
