With one of the highest standards of living anywhere, Bermuda poses none of the health risks found in many exotic destinations, particularly those in the Caribbean or Latin America. Sanitary standards are excellent, and health care is modern and professional. The island’s freshwater, rain caught on the limestone-coated roofs and channeled into tanks below every home, is nearly always potable—except after hurricanes and severe storms, when consuming water that’s been exposed to rotting foliage and other debris in the tanks can lead to stomachaches and intestinal problems. Bottled water is available in all grocery stores, gas stations, drugstores, and restaurants. Bermuda is subtropical, and therefore has no common tropical diseases, such as malaria. Vaccinations are unnecessary.
