Paget resort properties have tennis courts that can be rented by nonguests at an hourly rate. Some of the best are the five Plexi-pave hard courts at Mandarin Oriental Elbow Beach Resort (30 South Shore Rd., tel. 441/236-3535, tennis shop tel. 441/239-8908, elbowtennis [at] mail [dot] com, 8 a.m.–5:30 p.m. Mon.–Sat.); two of these have floodlights for night play. The resident pro is David Lambert—Bermuda’s Davis Cup team coach—who, along with his wife Barbara and champion daughters Tara and Jackie, gives lessons (one hour $75), and there’s a pro shop with equipment, balls, outfits, and cold drinks.

Coral Beach & Tennis Club (34 South Shore Rd., tennis shop tel. 441/239-7223, info [at] coralbeach [dot] bm, www.coralbeachclub.com) is a private members’ club and the premier tennis facility on the island, with eight clay courts monitored to ATP standards. Three courts have lights. Visitors who are not club members can book lessons here ($95 per hour) or games with club members. The tennis shop stocks clothing emblazoned with the club’s insignia, plus racquets and balls. Note that all-white tennis attire is required. Four club pros, including veteran Derek Singleton, give private or group coaching.
