If it’s possible to have a favorite gas station, the new Esso Collector’s Hill Tigermarket (65 South Shore Rd., next to Collector’s Hill, tel. 441/236-6574, 6 a.m.–11 p.m. daily) might be the perfect candidate. The friendly professionalism and spotless interior of the facility’s convenience store are factors, but the deli’s fried chicken alone would be enough to score top points for popularity.
Melt-in-your mouth chicken tenders ($12 for a dozen), chicken legs, pizza, hot dogs, and coleslaw, all made fresh daily at the on-site kitchen, are perfect for picnics and beach outings. Trail mix and homespun glass candy (colorful hard candy the shape of a hockey puck) are sold at checkout.
The cappuccino-to-go is the icing on the cake. You can even enjoy coffee and snacks on site; grab a stool at the prime people-watching window counter.
