Launched in 1988, the popular World Rugby Classic (Windsor Place, third floor, Queen St., Hamilton, tel. 441/295-6574, fax 441/296-7318, www.worldrugby.bm) attracts thousands to the National Sports Centre at Prospect to watch a weeklong showdown of former top international players.
Teams from Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Scotland, Wales, England, South Africa, Argentina, Spain, and the United States face off in what has grown into a veritable Seniors World Cup of Rugby. Stars including Willie McBride, Matt Dawson, Olivier Roumat, and Joost Van Der Westhuizen have entertained crowds over the years; Welsh-born actress Catherine Zeta-Jones has turned up to support the Welsh team.
Daily admission is $25, weeklong passes are $100, and premium tickets in the stands are $50. Passes (with access to hospitality tents and nonstop cocktail parties) cost $1,000 for the five match days.
