Spanish Point Boat Club (Spanish Point Rd., tel. 441/295-1030, fax 441/292-8024) is one of the island’s main sportfishing hubs, with docks and hauling equipment outside, where boats land their record catches. A members’ club, it nevertheless welcomes tourists.

Veteran sportfishing king Allen DeSilva runs Mako Charters (11 Abri Ln., Spanish Point, tel. 441/295-0835, fax 441/295-3620, www.fishbermuda.com) aboard his 57-foot air-conditioned Carolina sportfisher, DeMako, the island’s largest charter fishing vessel. DeSilva holds the current 1,352-pound blue marlin record, and boasts one-day hauls such as 44 yellowfin tuna. Full-day (nine hours) charters for six people cost $1,750 ($1,850 in June, July, Aug., $500 deposit required). Charters carry a maximum of eight people.

Father-and-son team Keith and Kevin Winter operate Playmate Charters (4 Mill Point Ln., tel. 441/292-7131, boat cell 441/335-5172, fax 441/292-9598, playmate [at] logic [dot] bm), offering full-day ($1,300) and half-day ($900) charters aboard 43-foot Playmate, a Torres Sports Fisherman, outfitted with tournament tackle, a fighting chair, two fishing chairs, outriggers, downriggers, kites, and other accessories for modern game-fishing.
