Clarence Cove at Admiralty Park off North Shore Road is a delightful little beach, tucked at the foot of the park and shallow enough for young children. Shady baygrape trees provide welcome cool.
Nearby Deep Bay is best accessed farther down the North Shore (via unmarked steep, stone steps cut into the hillside off North Shore Road near a bus stop). At low tide, there’s a beach here, but it is most popular for diving and jumping into its deep swimming hole.
The coves and bays off Spanish Point Park’s North Shore edge are perfect for snorkeling or bathing when the wind’s from the south (most of the summer). Shallow reefs here can be seen through clear water even from the shoreline. The No. 4 bus comes by here from Hamilton, or you can come by scooter and leave vehicles in the small carpark.
