Man-O-War Caye (Bird Isle) is a bird-choked, raucously chirping clump of protected mangroves that is a crucial nesting site for frigates and brown boobies.
Nearby, Coco Plum Island Resort (U.S. tel. 512/786-7309, www.cocoplumcay.com) boasts 10 bright cabins on a 16-acre private island that is associated with the Belizean Dreams resort in Sittee; they specialize in exclusive romantic packages.
Wee Wee Caye, affiliated with the Possum Point Biological Station, on the mainland near Sittee River, hosts a tropical field station, marine lab, and educational center, with a neat system of raised catwalks through the mangroves (beautiful, but lots of bugs).
