Located in El Progreso (Mile 7), just off the Chiquibul Road on 365 acres, Calico Jack’s Village (Belize tel. 501/820-4078, U.S. tel. 305/647-4908, www.calicojacksvillage.com) is an ambitious project to create a full-service adventure resort.
For now, Calico Jack’s top offerings include a medicinal hiking trail, cave tours, and the “longest, safest, and fastest canopy tour in Belize.” Climb and zip between 15 platforms high in the trees; available tours range from a 20-minute “express” experience to the full two-hour exploration (US$35–62).
Or try the massive “columpio,” a one-of-a-kind jungle swing, which will send you 200 feet in the air after you are hoisted above the top of a re-created Maya pyramid.
The cabanas and villas are also being built in Maya temple style, and all have access to a bar, restaurant, and pool.
