Unlike its spicier, brasher cousins from Guangdong and Sichuan, Yunnanese food hasn’t acquired overseas fame. However, it’s one of China’s tastiest regional cuisines and one that you should definitely try.
Yunnan province’s proximity to Laos and Myanmar has a big influence on the flavors and textures of its food and the area’s diverse ethnic makeup also adds to the mix. Legend Taste is one of the most popular mid-range Yunnan restaurants in Shanghai and really comes into its own during the warmer months, thanks to the wide terrace it shares with the other venues on the strip. Inside the mood is atmospheric with hand-woven tapestries on the wall.
Feast on Nixi village buckwheat cakes, Dai-style marinated pork, and shredded potatoes, or try Xishuangbanna-style curry and rustic mashed potatoes with pickles and chili.
