613-B Kaixuan Lu, near Wuyi Lu
HOURS: Daily 10 a.m.-10 p.m.
METRO: West Yan’an Road (Line 3, Line 4)
This multi-purpose venue is best known as a theater. It’s the home of the Shanghai Repertory Theater troupe, one of the city’s foremost drama groups. Their seasonal schedule includes regular performances of Shakespeare and contemporary plays.
The building started life as the Daming Rubber Factory in the 1960s and now houses a gallery, bookshop, and terrace café as well as performance space. The complex covers 1,200 square meters (12,900 sq. ft.) over three floors.
It can be difficult to locate from Kaixuan Road, so look out for the stylized character under the overhead Metro line. Head down the lane and the complex will be on the left.
