Jinrong Jie

HOURS: Daily 24 hours

METRO: Fuchengmen (Line 2)

The 35 blocks of modern high-rise office buildings along Jinrong Street make up Beijing’s Financial Street. Its origins as a commercial thoroughfare go back to the Yuan Dynasty, when banks and gold shops flourished. At the start of the People’s Republic in 1949, the old Bank of the Qing Dynasty was renamed Bank of China, and other financial establishments began to spring up around it. Today, an average of ¥10 billion flows through Financial Street every day, and its offices are home to Fortune 500 companies. As well as domestic corporations like People’s Bank of China and CITIC, international firms such as Goldman Sachs, UBS, and JP Morgan have offices here. The street features a contemporary twist on traditional courtyard architecture, dreamed up by Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill along with SWA landscape architects. As well as offices, Financial Street is home to some excellent restaurants and bars, and is a refreshing contrast to the more ancient parts of Beijing.
