  • At the Baltimore Museum of Industry, kids can learn how the city’s fortunes (and the city itself) rose and fell during the past 200 years.

  • At the B&O Railroad Museum, little ones can play on huge iron locomotives, and even board a train for a three-mile trip.

  • Check out Fort McHenry National Monument, where, in 1814, U.S. troops held off a British invasion — and a flag above the fort inspired “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

  • The Maryland Science Center has plenty of experiments, dinosaurs, and gizmos for kids to energetically embrace.

  • Head to the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore (early to watch the animals wake up and eat their breakfast (families can also breakfast at the zoo on warm weekends).

  • Dive in to the National Aquarium in Baltimore, where options range from breakfast with the dolphins to overnight sleepovers.

  • Have a fun, crab-smashing dinner at Obrycki’s Crab House in Fell’s Point.

  • Unleash your kids into a world of exhibits about everything from nature to robots at Port Discovery Children’s Museum.

  • Take a land and water tour of town with Ride the Ducks, featuring DUKWs — big, lumbering amphibious vehicles.

  • On weekends, kids can sign up as “powder monkeys” on the U.S.S. Constellation, to learn what life was like for children working on a Civil War– era warship.
