This corner pizzeria and sub shop (owned by two brothers named Pizza) has been serving pizzas and cheesesteaks to hungry Hampdenites for generations, but most people know Angelo’s for one reason: their monstrous slices of pizza, cut from a colossal 30-inch pie. Best of all, it’s not just quantity: Angelo’s pizzas are among the city’s better pies (although, alas, that’s not saying much).
There are a few outdoor tables that make for good people-watching and scene-observing, especially during the warmer months, and you can eat inside, but the basement-like space can get a tad claustrophobic and is a bit overstuffed with the kitchen, tables, pillars, equipment, and video poker machines—and that’s all before you add people.
