Antique Shops
Frederick’s history as a crossroads in early America means that the town was always awash in goods from across the region, so it’s only natural that today, Frederick is one of the area’s top stops for antique shoppers. Stores range in size from small shops along the main drags to huge multi-dealer warehouses on the outskirts.
Emporium Antiques (112 E. Patrick St., 301/662-7099, www.emporiumantiques.com, Mon.–Sat. 10 a.m.–6 p.m., Sun. noon–6 p.m.) is the largest in downtown, and combines the lots of more than 100 dealers in a 55,000-square-foot complex of buildings offering everything from grand French furniture to pop culture bric-a-brac.
North of downtown, Antique Station (194 Thomas Johnson Dr., 301/695-0888, Mon.–Fri. 10 a.m.–5 p.m., Sat. 10 a.m.–6 p.m., Sun. noon–6 p.m.) offers wares from some 200 dealers in a modern building.
Great Stuff by Paul (www.greatstuffbypaul.com) has two locations, a sprawling old warehouse downtown (10 N. Carroll St., 301/631-0004, Mon.–Sat. 10 a.m.–6 p.m., Sun. 11 a.m.–5 p.m.) and a 52,000-square-foot behemoth store just north of historic area (257 E. 6th St., 301/631-5340, Mon.–Sat. 10 a.m.–6 p.m., Sun. 11 a.m.–5 p.m.). And if Frederick can’t satiate your shopping needs, nearby New Market (east of Frederick) is known as the “Antiques Capital of Maryland.”
