Most of the travel information you find on the Web today is clearly tailored to selling a tourism product—hotel, condo, restaurant, sports activity—without offering related information of much use. And many of these sites were designed in the mid-1990s and haven’t been redesigned since. Forums, in which impassioned participants voice their many opinions, are a notable exception.

  • Baja.com
  • www.baja.com
  • One of the earliest Baja-focused online communities still ranks among the highest in traffic.

  • Baja Bush Pilots
  • www.bajabushpilots.com
  • A must-read for pilots interested in flying a private aircraft to Baja.

  • Baja Nomad
  • www.bajanomad.com
  • Still the best all-around Baja site for hard infor mation that doesn’t appear to have been paid for, with more nitty-gritty information than any rival. Great links page, copious information on hotels and restaurants, plus continually updated Baja news and essays.

  • BajaQuest
  • www.bajaquest.com
  • Mainly classified listings, with several active discussion boards.

  • Baja Travel Guide
  • www.bajatravel.com
  • An advertiser-driven site covering all of Baja, with telephone listings, maps, and calendar of events.

  • In Search of the Blue Agave
  • www.ianchadwick.com/tequila
  • An excellent website devoted to tequila connoisseurship, though it hasn’t been updated in several years.

  • Instituto Nacional de Estadística, Geografía e Informática
  • www.inegi.gob.mx
  • This Mexican government agency publishes statistics on population and economics for all of Mexico, as well as complete topographical maps. Spanish only.

  • iWindsurf.com and iKitesurf.com
  • www.iwindsurf.com
  • Daily Baja wind forecast and reports for windsurfers, plus a whole range of consumer weather delivery services, from the parent company WeatherFlow.

  • Los Cabos Guide
  • www.loscabosguide.com
  • Relatively up-to-date, advertiser-driven listings of hospitality and tourism businesses in the Los Cabos area, with some coverage of the East Cape and Todos Santos.

  • Olsen Currency Converter
  • www.oanda.com/converter/travel
  • For fast quotes on exchange rates for all international currencies, including the Mexican peso. Print out a “cheat sheet” to make easy conversions without having to do any math.

  • Sunbelt Publications
  • www.sunbeltpub.com
  • This book publisher specializing in upper and lower California has an online catalog of its Baja titles.

  • U.S. Embassy
  • http://mexico.usembassy.gov
  • Contains the home page for the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City, with information on consular services to U.S. citizens as well as State Department warnings.
