Once a pair of quiet fishing villages, Bahía de la Ventana and neighboring El Sargento were discovered by windsurfers in the 1990s and kiteboarders soon after. In winter months when the powerful El Norte winds blow through the narrow Canal de Cerralvo, sailboards fill the bay—as well as the campgrounds that surround it.

Other times of year, the towns attract scuba divers/free divers, beachgoers, and sportfishing enthusiasts.

Though it’s still relatively undeveloped compared to nearby La Paz or the Los Cabos corridor, the word is out on La Ventana; the area has been experiencing a real estate boom for the last few years, with dozens of properties for sale and many new buildings taking shape each year.

Expats here support the local community through annual fundraising contests, English language instruction, and other events. The result is an integrated community that gives a warm welcome to its visitors.

Festivals and Events

The La Ventana Classic is a fundraising kiteboarding race held in January every year. Participants start at Isla Cerralvo and finish on the shore of Bahía de la Ventana.
