Cine Arrayanes (Perito Moreno 39, tel. 02944/42-2860) shows recent movies.
A cluster of downtown bars also offer palatable pub grub. Choices include the Wilkenny Irish Pub & Restaurant (San Martín 435, tel. 02944/42-4444, www.wilkennybariloche.com.ar) and the comparable Pilgrim (Palacios 167, tel. 02944/42-1686, www.pilgrim.com.ar).
Popular Antares (Elflein 47, tel. 02944/43-1454, www.cervezaantares.com) is a brewpub with a decent food menu of German specialties and sandwiches to complement the suds.
South Bar (Juramento 30, tel. 02944/52-2001) is also popular with the pub-crawlers.
For live music, there are two good choices: The Roxy Bariloche (San Martín 580), a bar-restaurant that’s a branch of its Buenos Aires namesake, and the nearby The Roxbury (San Martín 490).
Bariloche nightspots open late—around 1 a.m.—and close around daybreak. The most central is the youthful By Pass (Rolando 157, tel. 02944/42-0549, www.bypass.com.ar). Several others lie a few blocks west of the Centro Cívico: Cerebro (Juan Manuel de Rosas 406, tel. 02944/42-4948, www.cerebro.com.ar), Roket (Juan Manuel de Rosas 424, tel. 02944/43-1940, www.roket.com), and Grisú (Juan Manuel de Rosas 574, tel. 02944/42-2269, www.grisu.com).
More than just a pretty landscape, Nahuel Huapi has an active cultural life. Llao Llao’s Camping Musical Bariloche (www.campingmusicalbche.org.ar) sponsors chamber music and brass concerts at the Festival de Música de Verano in January and February.
March’s Muestra Floral de Otoño is an end-of-summer flower show. May 3 marks the Fiesta Nacional de la Rosa Mosqueta, when local bakers and confectioners make the most of the wild rose hips, a European introduction that has become an ecological pest. July’s Fiesta Nacional de la Nieve (National Snow Festival) marks the start of ski season.
Gardeners again get their turn at October’s Fiesta del Tulipán (Tulip Festival) and the Muestra Floral de Primavera (Spring Flower Show). Late December brings the Navidad Coral (Christmas Chorus).
