Since Buenos Aires and vicinity lie within temperate latitudes comparable to those in the northern hemisphere, sunburn is not quite the problem it is in subtropical northern Argentina, where nearly vertical solar rays are far more intense. In southernmost Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego, ozone-destroying aerosols have increased the entry of ultraviolet radiation and caused skin problems for people and even for livestock like cattle and sheep.
Still, Argentine sun worshippers put themselves at risk whenever the sun breaks through the clouds. If you dress for the beach, use a heavy sunblock; on city streets, walk in the shade whenever possible.
