Like the accommodation scene, finding a restaurant in Drumheller is easy enough; finding a place you’ll leave saying “that was a good meal” is a different matter. The cafeteria at the Royal Tyrell Museum (North Dinosaur Trail, 403/823-7707, mid-May–Aug. daily 9 a.m.–6 p.m., the rest of the year Tues.–Sun. 10 a.m.–3:30 p.m.) is one of the better spots to enjoy lunch, especially sitting on the patio on a sunny day.

At the Badlands Motel, out toward the museum, Whif’s Flapjack House (801 N. Dinosaur Trail, 403/823-7595, 6 a.m.–2 p.m.) serves up a continuous flow of pancakes ($5–8) from when the doors first open each morning.

Downtown, Café Italiano (35 3rd Ave. W, 403/823-4443, Mon.–Fri. 7 a.m.–5 p.m., Sat. 9 a.m.–5 p.m., lunches $5–9) pours the best coffee in town. Also on offer are paninis, salads, and homemade desserts.

Athens Restaurant (71 Bridge St. N, 403/823-9400, Mon.–Sat. 4–9 p.m., $16–25) has been around for decades. Although the service is not overly friendly the food is decent. The house specialty is kleftiko (spring lamb baked with herbs and spices); have it with the Greek salad for the full effect.
