Most Resurrection Bay sea kayaking originates from the scenic Lowell Point area, three miles south of Seward. Three companies—Kayak Adventures Worldwide (907/224-3960, www.kayakak.com), Sunny Cove Sea Kayaking (907/224-4426 or 800/770-9119, www.sunnycove.com), and Liquid Adventures (907/224-9225 or 888/325-2925, www.liquid-adventures.com)—offer similar paddling trips, including a half-day (or sunset) paddle for $70, and an all-day trip for $125–199.

The latter typically takes you to Caines Head or up Tonsina River to watch the spawning salmon. Another choice includes a boat tour to Aialik Bay within Kenai Fjords National Park, followed by a glacier paddle and return to town for $399. In addition, all three companies offer multiday trips into Kenai Fjords National Park. Sunny Cove has day trips ($169) to Fox Island aboard a Kenai Fjords tour boat followed by a paddle, salmon bake, and wildlife cruise back to town.

Also at Lowell Point, Miller’s Landing (907/224-5739 or 866/541-5739, www.millerslandingak.com) rents kayaks for experienced do-it-yourselfers, and provides kayaking day trips and instruction, along with water-taxi service to transport kayaks into remote parts of Kenai Fjords. Other water taxis are Weather Permitting (907/224-6595 or 877/907-3677, www.watertaxiak.com) and Aquetec Water Taxi (907/362-1291, www.sewardwatertaxi.com).

Backcountry Safaris (907/222-1632 or 877/812-2159, www.alaskakayak.com) is a long-established company with tours to Aialik Bay, kayak rentals, and an eco-adventure camp next to Bear Glacier.

Adventure 60 North (907/224-2600, www.adventure60.com) has similar services to those offered by other companies, including guided trips and kayak rentals, but also rents outdoor gear such as tents, sleeping pads, and even rubber boots. Their most unique offering combines a scenic helicopter flight to Bear Glacier followed by four hours of sea kayaking on the lake ($500).

Kayakers Cove (907/224-8662, www.kayakerscove.com) is a unique and well-run operation a dozen miles from Seward. Reasonably priced lodging and kayak rentals are available, with access by water taxi from Millers Landing.

In the summer, Chugach Outdoor Center (907/277-7238 or 866/277-7238, www.chugachoutdoorcenter.com) has an easy eight-mile float down the Resurrection River from Exit Glacier. These 2.5-hour floats are $80 adults or $60 children.
