Cozy Veronica’s (602 Petersen Way, 907/283-2725, Sun.–Thurs. 9 a.m.–8 p.m., Fri.–Sat. 9 a.m.–9:30 p.m. summer, Mon.–Thurs. 10 a.m.–3 p.m., Fri.–Sat. 10 a.m.–9:30 p.m. winter, $9–13) is the place in the Kenai-Soldotna area. Hidden in a historic log cabin across the street from the Russian Orthodox Church in Old Kenai, the café serves breakfast polenta-crust quiche specials, fresh salads, soups, sandwiches, espresso, and wonderful desserts. There’s acoustic musical accompaniment on Friday and Saturday evenings.
A classy (and pricey) place to eat in Kenai is Paradisos Restaurant (907/283-2222, daily 11 a.m.–11 p.m., $14–30) on Kenai Spur Road near the visitors center. They’ve been serving lunch and dinner to locals and visitors since 1971. The big menu features Italian, Mexican, pizzas (free local delivery), and Greek food.
