Visitors Center
Stop by the Homer Chamber of Commerce Visitors Information Center (on the Homer Bypass at Main St., 907/235-7740, www.homeralaska.org, Mon.–Fri. 9 a.m.–7 p.m., Sat.–Sun. 10 a.m.–6 p.m. late May–early Sept., Mon.–Fri. 9 a.m.–5 p.m. early Sept.–late May), for local details and a plethora of brochures.
Tours
The Pratt Museum operates excellent 1.5-hour walking tours of Homer Spit and the harbor for $5. These depart Friday and Saturday at 3 p.m. throughout the summer, and include local history and lots of detail on commercial fishing and sportfishing. Get tickets at the Pratt (3779 Bartlett St., 907/235-8635) or in the little booth next to the Salty Dawg Saloon on the Spit.
