Scott Leonard has been hiking in Washington for nearly 10 years. A Pacific Northwest native, Scott started his outdoor adventures in the forests and high deserts of Oregon before coming to Washington during college and exploring the Olympic Mountains. After years of hiking in the state for recreation, Scott spent several years at the nonprofit EarthCorps, specializing in trail construction projects. So he has not only hiked many of Washington’s trails, but has built several of them as well. He has also written Foghorn Outdoors Washington Hiking also available from Avalon Travel Publishing.

Scott’s love lies first with the Olympic Mountains, but he enjoys exploring all of the Northwest’s wilderness areas. His strong passion for the outdoors is not only in experiencing the environment but also in protecting it. He is currently studying environmental law at Lewis & Clark University in Portland, Oregon.
