ABOUT THE AUTHOR ANN MARIE BROWN
The author of 14 outdoor guidebooks, Ann Marie Brown is a dedicated California outdoorswoman. She bikes, hikes, and camps more than 150 days each year in an effort to avoid routine, complacency, and getting a real job. Ann Marie’s love of bicycling began at age 2, when she commandeered her older sister’s tricycle down the steepest stretch of her family’s driveway and had her first experience with “road rash.” She pedaled her first century tour at age 15, although the ride ended prematurely at mile 82 when her brakes failed on a steep descent in the rain. Fortunately, her bruises quickly healed, and her loving parents chipped in to buy her a new set of wheels. Ann Marie has been falling off one bike or another at regular intervals ever since. (She prefers the term “involuntary dismount.”) Ann Marie’s work has appeared in Sunset, VIA, Backpacker, and California magazines. As a way of giving back a bit of what she gets from her outdoor experiences, she writes and edits for several environmental groups, including the Sierra Club and National Resources Defense Council. When not riding or hiking along a California trail, Ann Marie can be found at her home near Yosemite National Park. For more information about Ann Marie’s other books, visit www.annmariebrown.com.
