ABOUT THE AUTHORS ELIZABETH & MARK MORRIS

Elizabeth and Mark MorrisElizabeth and Mark Morris first became involved in travel writing while working as editors at Moon Publications, when the original Handbook series was produced in two crowded rooms of the publisher’s Northern California office. In those days, the text was set an agonizing 13 picas at a time on a clunky old Linotronic typesetter, and laying out a guidebook called for more hot wax than a beauty salon needs in a month.
Mark made the transition from travel editor to writer with his first book, Odyssey Illustrated Guide to Ireland. Elizabeth took up the post of managing editor at Moon, and worked for a time in Hong Kong at Moon’s former affiliate, China Guides.
Mark continued to pursue his passion for coastal destinations by writing the first edition of Moon Handbooks Atlantic Canada. Their love of the Pacific Northwest led Elizabeth and Mark to settle in Portland and begin their extensive explorations of the region. Together, they wrote the first edition of Oregon Coast Best Places.
In the early years of the Internet boom, the pair caught the attention of a little Seattle-based company called Microsoft Corp. Mark was hired to manage travel-content development for what would become Expedia.com, a leading online travel website, while Elizabeth became managing editor for Microsoft’s popular mapping and route-planning products. Thrilling as 70-hour work weeks and commuting in Seattle traffic were, after seven years Elizabeth and Mark left the software giant to return to the less hectic life of full-time travel writing.
Having come full circle, Elizabeth and Mark are delighted to be back exploring the Oregon coast, now accompanied by two small but highly opinionated passengers in car seats, on a quest to discover the chunkiest bowl of chowder, the coziest bed-and-breakfast, and the most perfect beach.
They sincerely hope the search never ends.
