ABOUT THE AUTHOR DAVID K. WRIGHT

David K. Wright was born and raised in Richmond, Indiana, on Ohio’s western doorstep. A distant relative of the Wright brothers, he heard the birth of rock ‘n’ roll on an old Crosley AM radio in his bedroom late at night.
Finishing up college in Ohio, David received his draft notice one day after graduation. Inducted into the Army and sent over to Vietnam, he soon realized how little he knew of the world. A disabled vet returning from Asia, he worked as a reporter, copy editor, city editor, and editor for several Midwestern daily newspapers. After losing patience with the media, he then spent a quarter of a century being a jack-of-all trades freelance writer. How many trades? When people ask, "What kind of writing do you do?" He always replies, "Whattaya got?"
The result is a resume that includes more than forty books, on subjects as diverse as corporate management, assessing the 1960s, and Minnesota taverns. The work he enjoys the most usually pays the least, but freelancing means freedom.
David obtained his first assignment from Moon Handbooks in 1997. The books he likes best are travel books and various children’s social studies books on countries in Southeast Asia. He has returned to Asia six times and is always looking for new and exciting adventures. "No matter where I am, I want to be elsewhere," he says. "That’s an itch I’ve never been able to scratch."
He now lives in Madison, Wisconsin, with his wife, Linda, two dogs, three cats, and a Suzuki motorcycle. His favorite places are Northern Thailand, Lake Superior, and anywhere in Ohio. He has never voted for anyone who won, turned down a drink, or passed on dessert.
