ABOUT THE AUTHOR ANDREW HEMPSTEAD
Andrew Hempstead has spent many years exploring, photographing, and writing about Nova Scotia. For this edition alone, he made the cross-country trek three times, exploring the farthest reaches of the provinces poking into the back alleys of Halifax, canoeing in Kejimkujik National Park, searching out fossils at Joggins, sampling Solomon Gundy (pickled herring), and surfing the waves of Lawrencetown Beach (okay, that was for his own enjoyment). These diverse experiences, coupled with input from untold numbers of locals and a love of the outdoors, created the guidebook you now hold.
Andrew has been writing since the late 1980s, when, after leaving a career in advertising, he took off for Alaska, linking up with veteran travel writer Deke Castleman to help research and update the fourth edition of the Moon Handbook to Alaska and the Yukon. In addition to this book, he has authored guidebooks to the Maritimes, Newfoundland and Labrador, Alberta, British Columbia, the Canadian Rockies, Vancouver and Victoria, and Western Canada, as well as contributing to guidebooks on the San Juan Islands and the Pacific Northwest. He has also worked on multiple guidebooks to New Zealand and Australia.
Andrew lives with his wife Dianne, daughter Brio, and two dogs in Banff, Alberta. When not working on his books, Andrew spends as much time as possible enjoying the wonderful surroundings in which he lives, hiking, fishing, golfing, camping, and skiing.
