ABOUT THE AUTHOR TINA LASSEN

When Tina Lassen was nine years old, hunting for greenstones on a rocky Isle Royale beach, she watched a moose trundle out of the balsams and slip into a wild Lake Superior bay—and she's been smitten with northern Michigan ever since.
A native of the Great Lakes region, Tina has lived in Madison, Wisconsin, since 1979. After obtaining a B.A. in Journalism from the University of Wisconsin, she worked in corporate communications for five years (certainly enough for one lifetime) before founding her freelance writing studio, Pen & Inc Business Communications, Ltd.
Today, Tina writes for a variety of corporate clients throughout the United States, and also writes about travel, outdoor sports, and recreation for several national magazines, including National Geographic Adventure, Northwest Airlines World Traveler, Better Homes and Gardens and Midwest Living.
Researching Moon Handbooks Michigan was an arduous job, requiring Tina to wander around some of the most beautiful wilderness areas in the Midwest, while avoiding getting her Subaru stuck in the mud on an abandoned logging road 11 miles from the nearest telephone. (Hey, it only happened once.) As part of her research, Tina paddled a sea kayak everywhere from the Keweenaw Peninsula to Drummond Island, mountain biked through the better part of three national forests, hiked in the company of more black bears than she can count, and ate far more blueberries than should be legal. Tina continues to conduct quality testing on red wines from Paw Paw to the Mission Peninsula.
